Linguistics



Linguistics is the study of languages .
Linhuistics is concerned with the nature of languages and communication .

     Phonetics

 Phonetics is the study of speech sound.
Phonetics is a branch of linguistics that comparises study of the sound of human speech .
  
       The science of phonetics aims to describe all the sound of all the world is languages :

1. Articulatory phonetics
        Focus on how the vocal tract produces the sound of languages .

2. Acoustics phonetics
          Phisycal properties of the sound languages .

3. Auditory phonetics
          Focus on how listeners perceive the sound languages .

      In the phonetics there are segmentation , namely the produced by breathing , a said , and ribbons voice .
      There are four of the segmentation that is consonan , vocal , diphtong and kluster .
      (a). Consonan is dead latters , example : P,d,b,t,h
     
      (b). Vocal is life latters, example : a,i u,e,o .
     
       (c). Diphtong is the latters written double , example : ai au eu
     
       (d). Kluster is the double latters consonan read of one . Example : Like , blue , red .
        
     So.....  The now discussed is articulatory phonetics.

         Articulatory phonetics

Most speech sound produced by pushing air through the vocal cords.
    1. glottis : the opening between the vocal cords.
    2. Larynx : voice box
    3. Pharynx : tubular part of the throat above the larynx.
    4. Oral : mouth
    5. Nasal : nose and the passanges connecting it to the throat and sinuses.

   Place of articulation

1. Bilabial
          Produced by both upper lower lip
        ( p b m) .
2. Dental
           The tip of tongue with the front
         Teeth.
3. Labiodental
            Produced by touching the bottom
         lip to the upper teeth.  ( f v)
4. Alveolar
            Formed with the tongue touching
         behind the upper front teeth. ( th)
5. Palatal
             Produced by the front of tongue
        with the front skys.
6. Velar
             Produced by the back of tongue
        With the behind skys.
7. Glottal
             Produced without the active use
        of the tongue and other parts of the
        Mouth. 

    Manner of articulation

1. Stop
         Produced by some form of stopping
       the air stream the releasing it
       Suddenly.
2. Fricative
         Produced by severaly obstructing
       the airflow so as to cause friction.
3. Nassal
         Produced by sending the stream of
       air through the nose.

   Intonation

   Intonation is the raise and fall of the voice .
   1. Rising intonation
               Intonation is a question
   2. Falling intonation
               Intonation is a statement
